We first posted this info on swapping an M50 motor into an E30 chassis over 20 years ago.
The following two pictures show the finished product. As seen in the first picture, the quick way out was chosen for the air filter: mounted directly into the e36 HFM. Andy was anxious to take it out for a test drive, and it was really a blast! In this car, a late 325 5-speed with a 1 to1 5th gear and a 2.93:1 differential was used. As Andy said at the time, “in my case (being over 50 years old at the time), I liked quiet cruising speeds!”
