The first picture below shows the factory e36 M3 rear muffler. Note the two brackets welded onto it for hooking into the e30 original rear muffler hangers.
The second picture shows the ’95 M3 catalytic converter, which must be modified just forward of the oxygen sensor (where the older pipe connects into it). Notice the difference in the rearrangement of the tube.
The third picture shows the custom-made brackets to support the exhaust hangers for the e36 cat converter. The fourth and fifth pictures show the exhaust fitted to the car.
